European Soccer Clubs Continue Preseason Preparations

Manchester City is back!

The defending English giants kicked off their preseason tour of Asia against Inter Milan. It wasn’t the start City was hoping for, but there were still positives to take away. The match finished tied 1-1 after 90 minutes before heading straight to penalties, which is standard for preseason friendlies. Unfortunately for City, Inter came out on top 3-1 in the shootout.

It’s never fun to lose, even in preseason, but these matches are all about building chemistry and getting players back into game shape. City now turns its attention to the K League All-Stars from South Korea before wrapping up the tour against Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona also came up short in preseason action.

Their friendly against English side Birmingham ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw before Birmingham edged Barcelona 3-2 in the penalty shootout. Like Manchester City, Barcelona still has two preseason matches remaining to continue preparing for the new season.

The results don’t count in the standings, but every minute on the pitch helps teams get closer to full strength before the season begins.

St. Louis CITY SC’s Winning Streak Comes to an End

St. Louis City saw its four-match winning streak come to an end with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake.

While the winning streak is over, earning a point is never a bad result, especially in a competitive Western Conference.

MLS now pauses league play for two weeks as teams compete in the Leagues Cup, the annual tournament featuring clubs from Major League Soccer and Liga MX in Mexico. Once the tournament concludes, St. Louis City will return to league action looking to continue its strong form.

Kansas City Current Responds in a Big Way

After suffering a road loss to Boston Legacy, the Kansas City Current responded exactly how championship contenders should.

Kansas City absolutely dominated Racing Louisville with an incredible 5-1 victory. The attack looked unstoppable, creating chances from everywhere on the field and reminding everyone why this team remains one of the league’s best.

They followed that performance with a 1-1 draw against Angel City. While it wasn’t another five-goal explosion, picking up points consistently is exactly what strong teams do.

Cardinals Continue Searching for Answers

The St. Louis Cardinals continue searching for answers.

They managed just one victory during their four-game series against the Chicago Cubs, but it was certainly a memorable one. St. Louis walked off Game 3 with an exciting 3-2 victory before dropping the series finale 4-2.

Things didn’t get much easier on the road against the 2025 American League champion Toronto Blue Jays. The Cardinals dropped the first two games 3-1 and 5-1 before avoiding the sweep with a convincing 5-1 victory in the finale.

Next up is one of baseball’s most iconic franchises, the New York Yankees. Anytime the Cardinals and Yankees meet, it brings back memories of one of baseball’s greatest historic rivalries.

Team USA Earns Volleyball Nations League Silver

What an incredible Volleyball Nations League tournament for Team USA.

The American men were outstanding throughout the knockout rounds. They swept Italy in the quarterfinals before surviving an instant classic against Japan, winning 3-2 to advance to the championship match.

The final against Poland lived up to every expectation. It went the full five sets before Poland narrowly claimed the gold medal with a 3-2 victory. The United States earned an impressive silver medal, while Slovenia defeated Japan 3-1 to take bronze.

Both the men’s and women’s national teams have represented the United States with tremendous pride this year. Watching both squads compete at the highest level has been one of the highlights of the international volleyball season.

Beach Volleyball Brings Elite Competition to Rio

Few tournaments in beach volleyball compare to the Elite 16 stop in Rio de Janeiro.

The atmosphere, the passionate Brazilian fans, and the beautiful beach setting make this one of the best events on the Beach Pro Tour calendar.

Brazil’s Rebecca and Carol looked nearly unbeatable throughout the event.

They swept every opponent during pool play without dropping a single set. That dominance continued through the Round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals before finally meeting their match in the championship.

The Netherlands’ Raisa Schoon and Katja Stam stunned the home crowd by sweeping Rebecca and Carol to capture the gold medal.

Team USA also had a fantastic tournament. Kelly Cheng and Megan Kraft recovered from an opening-match loss by winning the rest of their group matches before advancing through the knockout rounds. Their impressive run ended in the semifinals against Rebecca and Carol, but they bounced back to earn the bronze medal.

Latvia’s Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots were simply phenomenal.

They won all three group matches, dropping only one set the entire tournament before sweeping every opponent in the Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship match.

France’s Remi Bassereau and Calvin Aye put together an outstanding run to claim silver, while fellow French duo Teo Rotar and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat earned bronze after defeating Austria’s Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger.

Rio once again proved why it remains one of the premier stops in international beach volleyball. Next up is Hamburg, Germany.

Little League Softball World Series Gets Underway

The Little League Softball World Series is officially underway in Greenville, North Carolina.

Before teams reach the World Series, they must first win their local and state tournaments. State champions then advance to regional tournaments, where they compete against the best teams from neighboring states. The winner of each regional earns the honor of representing that region at the Little League Softball World Series. International regions go through a similar qualification process to determine their representatives.

The tournament uses a double-elimination format, meaning teams must lose twice before being eliminated.

Opening-day action featured several dominant performances.

The Southeast crushed the Northwest 14-0.

Asia-Pacific defeated the Mid-Atlantic 4-1.

The Central Region rolled past the West 11-1.

Host North Carolina thrilled the home crowd with a 16-4 run-rule victory over Canada.

Later, Latin America defeated Asia-Pacific 7-2, handing Asia-Pacific its second loss and eliminating them from the tournament.

It’s still early, but several teams have already shown they could be serious championship contenders.

International Softball Delivers Exciting Matchups

The USA Softball International tournament has delivered plenty of exciting softball over the opening days.

Japan opened with a dominant 5-0 win over American Samoa before later defeating Chinese Taipei 5-3, the U.S. Elite Team 9-2, and Canada 6-5.

The United States Women’s National Team has been equally impressive. Team USA defeated Australia 12-0, Canada 10-7, China 10-1, and then earned bragging rights with a 6-2 victory over the U.S. Elite Team.

Canada picked up victories over China and Australia, while China earned wins over Australia, Chinese Taipei, and American Samoa.

American Samoa also celebrated victories over Chinese Taipei and Australia.

The tournament concludes with Canada facing the U.S. Elite Team while Team USA meets Japan in what should be a fantastic championship-caliber showdown.

Women’s Professional Baseball Makes History

History was officially made this week.

The new Women’s Pro Baseball League played its first games, marking the return of a professional women’s baseball league for the first time since the 1940s.

The Los Angeles Queens defeated the New York Heights 10-8 in the first game in league history.

Later, San Francisco earned an impressive 11-3 victory over Boston.

This league represents a huge moment for women’s baseball. It creates opportunities for talented players while inspiring the next generation of young girls who dream of playing professional baseball.

It’s exciting to watch history unfold.

American Tennis Players Find Their Form

Hard-court season is officially under way.

Ben Shelton continued in the Washington ATP tournament with a three-set victory over Ugo Humbert before falling in another three-set battle against Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in the quarter finals.

Taylor Fritz has looked every bit like one of the tournament favorites.

He battled past fellow American Alex Michelsen in three sets to advance to the semifinals before defeating Brandon Nakashima in another three-set match to advance to the final. Fritz then handled Spain’s Rafael Jodar in straight sets to win the Washington ATP.

With the U.S. Open rapidly approaching, seeing American players finding form at the right time is an encouraging sign.
