Resilience and Energy Define SIUE’s Week on the Field

SIUE Baseball Battles, Softball Builds Momentum and Energy

The SIUE baseball team has had to fight through some ups and downs.

The 16–4 loss to Illinois was rough, but the immediate response—a 15–5 run-rule win over St. Louis—says a lot. They couldn’t carry that into their OVC series against Western Illinois, dropping the final two games 10–1 and 10–6 after winning the opener 4–2.

But then came a big-time bounce-back: an 11–5 road win over Missouri. Beating an SEC team like that is a statement, especially with that game being on national TV.

The SIUE softball team might be the most fun team to watch right now.

They swept Kansas City—13–2 run rule and 6–5—then followed it up with a full sweep of Southern Indiana at home: 7–2, 3–2, and 7–1. The loss to Missouri, which was a 7–0 run-rule, wasn’t ideal, but what stands out more is the energy around this team.

Being at that Southern Indiana series, you could feel how much support they have. The community shows up, and there’s a real connection between players and fans.

Players like Regan Dunkin bring constant positivity. Whether she’s in the field, on deck, or in the dugout, she’s lifting people up.

Head coach Ben Sorden talked about a “never say die” attitude, and it actually shows. This team doesn’t check out of games, and they clearly believe in each other.

That kind of culture is hard to build—but when it’s there, you can feel it.
